Johnston sheriff's deputy fired, charged with assault

KENLY, N.C. -- Authorities have charged a Johnston County sheriff's deputy with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and two men in a parking lot over the weekend.

Scott Campbell Richardson, a deputy for 10 years, was fired Tuesday and arrested. He was charged with two counts of simple assault, one count of assault on a female and one count of communicating threats, according to arrest warrants.

The incident occurred Sunday, though Richardson was not arrested until the sheriff's office completed an internal investigation, office spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said.

Richardson, 40, was a resource officer at North Johnston High School during the past school year, Amaon said. He is also a former narcotics officer.

The ex-girlfriend, Patricia Lynn Morse of Kenly, obtained a protective order against Richardson on Tuesday.
