Chatham County sheriff's deputies arrested a Staley man Thursday on a charge of sexually assaulting a 17-month-old child.

Derek Green, 29, of 4551 Staley Snow Camp Road, has been charged with first-degree sex offense. He is being held in the Chatham County jail on $100,000 bail.

On Wednesday, a nurse at UNC Hospitals reported suspicious bruising on the child. The child's mother had brought the child to the hospital after the child complained about soreness.
